John Raymond Jensen was born December 10, 1929, the son of John and Marie Meyer Jensen. He died Thursday, October 7, 2010, at his home near Dow City, Iowa, at the age of eighty.
John was born on a farm near Dow City. He grew up and received his education in Dow City schools, graduating from Dow City High School with the class of 1948. He was baptized into faith on October 1, 1932 and confirmed on November 3, 1946 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City, Iowa. He farmed his entire life except during the time he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Following his discharge from the Army, he was united in marriage to Eva Holeton on November 7, 1954, at the old Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City. The couple was blessed with the birth of four children.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. His family meant the world to him and farming was his next love. He loved telling his children stories and making them laugh. He liked giving his children and grandchildren ice cream and taking them for rides, letting each of them sit on his lap and drive. He maintained friendships with his military friends and looked forward to annual reunions with them in various friends homes. With a love for nature and the outdoors, his favorite activities included fishing and deer hunting with friends. He enjoyed playing cards with Don and Pat Garrett. He liked reading Western books, especially Louis LAmour.
John was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Eva of Dow City; three daughters: Suzanne Cruz and her husband, Bob of Des Moines, Iowa; Cindy Rogers and her husband, Paul of Houston, Texas; and Gina Barton and her husband, Jeff of Nevada City, California; one son, David Jensen of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters: Betty Brunsvold of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota; Norene Schloeman of Phoenix, Arizona; and Edna Davis of Kerman, California; other relatives and friends.
